This is my entry to the Leartes and Dekogon art challange.
Everything in the scene is made by me , models ,vegetation, textures , level art, lighting , effects, shaders, decals . I'm happy I had the time not to use any megascan or photogrametry to give it a personal style.
The theme was post apocalyptic environment. I got inspired by concepts of refuge encampments, but ran it through the prism of my own country.
The place is set in a Bulgarian forest in eastern Europe. A train derailed during the events that led to the end of civilization.
The decaying structure serves as a makeshift camp to whoever found it. Some of the items of the passenger's get's a good use from the new inhabitants.
The train as well as all the props are inspired and based on pre-90s items found in most ex communist country on the Balkans and soviet states, Trains have the familiar red and white paint that I know from my childhood. Bags, matresses , clothes, interior seats , beers , toys and other all have the colors and design of familiar communist items of everyday life.
What I wanted was to give an interesting spin on the widely used theme , and combine some retro stuff with a future like apocalypse.
I am pretty happy with how the scene turned out , considering I had just an hour or so each night after work to make progress.
Something that I'm a bit unhappy about was my failure to do regular updates , blog posts. I simply didn't leave enough time after every major development. Next time , I'll try to figure some time for that as well.
Scene is realtime Unreal Engine 4, setup with last gen as minimum aiming for next gen mid-high PC. Everything has LODs, collisions.
