Distance Fakes – ACO: The Curse of the Pharaohs

Some of my work on the DLC for ACO – The Curse of the Pharaohs. The world of the DLC is huge and we had many distinct biomes. Combined with the huge view distance of the game we had to cover large areas in the distance with something cheap but convincing. Part of my work was to create very low poly meshes that blend seamlessly with the much higher detail terrain.
The meshes were textured in substance designer. As the terrain uses combination of materials working based on slope, elevation and flow-maps, to achieve convincing replicas I used material lookalikes and used masks to texture the meshes in the same way.
